Snowdrops...❀

With a bit of luck the only mention of snow from now on will be the snowdrops carpeting our gardens. Always a welcome sight at this time of the year, Snowdrops (Galanthus), remind me that the worst of winter is over and spring is just around the corner.

Once a clump of snowdrops has established they spread like wildfire so they are great value for money as well as giving an awesome lengthy display just when it’s needed the most. For a triple hit why not mix in a generous drift of Crocuses and Bluebells and you will have a gorgeous blanket of colour well in to spring.

There are many different Snowdrops to collect with doubles, triples and singles they have something for everyone (see below) and can often demand a high price between avid Galanthus collectors at special collectors events where the newest and rarest varieties are bought, sold and swapped while they are 'in the green'.

Snowdrops can be expensive to buy especially when they are hard to
establish from the bulb so the best thing to do is swap clumps between your
friends when they have just finished flowering but still have the green leaves,
hence 'in the green'. Here at Green Goddess Gardening we often do this for our
regular customers by swapping around between gardens. Large clumps can be split in to smaller ones so they can be spread over a larger area or just plonk the
whole clump in the ground...they are not fussy when in the green and establish quickly and start to spread soon after.

If you have a surplus of Snowdrops in your garden they also make lovely gift, perhaps for mothers day.

Just wrap a bundle of 10-15 in some newspaper and tie with a ribbon, Or pot up and wrap with some nice paper and then add a hand made label with planting instructions and the variety if you know it. I for one would love to recieve such a thoughtful gift.
